My passion for early childhood education stems from my parents and is like a ripple evolving through the years and it grows.-Leticia Lara LCSW
I became an administrator because I wanted to do more. I wanted to have a larger impact on programs. i wanted to be able to shape programs that would best benefit children and families. -Raymond Hernandez MS Ed
I have long believed that the development of a child does not begin the day he is born - or at age three - but much earlier, during the formative years of his parents. -Edward Zigler, Ph.D
It is important to help children learn as much as possible about parenting to help prevent social problems like premature child bearing, and child neglect and abuse. Now that we know more about brain development in the very young, it is critical that we teach our future parents the important role that parents can play in stimulating and nurturing their children, and in preparing them to reach their full potential in school and in later life. -Edward Zigler, Ph.D
One thing we have learned is that children come to us dramatically different one from the other. Just because nearly all the children in Head Start are poor does not mean that they are all the same. Moreover, development is not linear. - Samuel J. Meisels, Ed.D.
How true your last quote is! Not only are adults different from each other, but children as well. Learning is definitely not linear either.
ReplyDeleteEdward Zigler's quote about teaching children to parent was a very interesting one. In Head Start we really need to model that for our children. Many of our parents this year, in particular, are very young. They are babies themselves having to make adult decisions.
I have enjoyed reading all of your quotes, but the quote that I relate to the most are the words of Raymond Hernandez:I became an administrator because I wanted to do more. I wanted to have a larger impact on programs. i wanted to be able to shape programs that would best benefit children and families. Since taking this class, I find myself contemplating whether or not I will benefit the children in my community as their teacher or as an administrator.
